In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, one character has always baffled the audience on who he really is—Macbeth. He appears strong to the world, but that is just a wall. Hidden behind that wall is his true cowardness. And both his strength, and weakness can be seen throughout the play. But what does make someone strong or weak? Does the definition of weak fit for Macbeth? It easily does fit Macbeth. He is a coward, morally, mentally, and physically weak. Being strong can be defined in many ways. For this situation, strength could mean plain power, the higher title you have, the stronger you are. It seems as if all of the play is just a game of power between every character. A game of king of the hill. The player (or in this case the†¦show more content†¦Not only did attempt to kill Banquo and Fleance with murderers, but Macduff’s family. Like Banquo, Macduff’s family received a knife to the body. All this was done to make sure Macbeth kept his spot on the throne, but it was done like a weakling, not face to face like a strong and proud man would. Another example of Macbeth’s mental weakness is how the witches manipulate him and trick him throughout the book. The first example of that is when the witches meet him near the beginning. They easily get into his head and trick him that he should be the Thane of Cawdor, Thane of Glamis, and king of Scotland. They once said he would be king after he became Thane of Cawdor and Glamis: â€Å"All hail, Macbeth! hail to thee, thane of Glamis! All hail, Macbeth, hail to thee, thane of Cawdor! All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter!† (1.3, 50-53) This shows Macbeth is weak because he is easily mentally manipulated. They easily manipulated him. Not once, but twice as well. Later in the play, the witches came back and caused the ultimate death of Macbeth. They tricked him that he was â€Å"invincible† without lying at all. The second apparition stated that he would not be killed by a man born from a woman here: â€Å"Be bloody, bold, and resolute; laugh to scorn The power of man, for none of woman born Shall harm Macbeth.†(4.1, 79-81) Here again, Macbeth is weak because he is easily tricked. Someone strong wouldn’t mind it, and they would make a decision for their self.
